Got my drivers seat repaired today. I found a good passenger side seat. Had my upholsterer remove and replace. He added new leather were the cloth was once on the inside (now outside). Also repaired the broken frame. Looks perfect now!
Left rear axle bearing is OUT! Gone with it is that incessant pulsing drone as I drive down the road. Finally.. I can hear the flowmaster exhaust I put in a week ago. Now it really needs A/C. I bought fluorescent dye, UV light and glasses. Hopefully tomorrow yields good results.
Climb under the vehicle and focus on the area between the front drive shaft and the transmission. You will see a cable that passes next to the transmission. Under normal conditions that cable should be attached to a flange on the transmission. In the case of my noise it breaks loose from the flange and hangs free. Good Luck.
Had a problem with the engine overheating so I changed the thermostat and upper hose (was leaking under pressure). So far, so good.
Had a guy yell at me that my brake lights weren't working. Some might be offended but not me. Found a blown fuse. I need to watch this.
Swapped the amplifier out. No Luck. Still no front speakers. I have ordered a new head unit with an IPod input.
Had my detailer do a 12 hour detail job and boy does she shine! The paint is still a problem but it's so much better now that it shines.
Took out the rear carpet. What a learning experience. The tire cover is lifted so the carpet has padding to match. The new carpet doesn't have near the padding. The tire cover looks like it's seriously attached to the cover. I'm not sure I could have reattached in a workmanship manner. The color was off so I was very leery of trying to replace it. I decided to leave it intact. So back in it went. I will need a donor carpet if I decide to change my mind.
Put UV (with stop leak) in the AC. No sign of leaks. Hmmmm.... I'm keeping a close eye on it.
Replaced the passenger visor.
Bonus... Found an Easter egg when we took out the carpet. Found an original key under the back seat carpet and under the seat bracket in a Velcro pouch. Someone wanted to hide that in a serious way.
After 2 months of working on Project Rehab and fixing the cooling system in my Mountaineer Project Rehab has found a new home. My Dad came for a visit and fell in love with her. Once I completed the front end rebuild on the Mounty it was time to turn Project Rehab loose. Of course I picked up a 2002 WJ Limited with some lifter noise cheep (at least that's my bet) to satiate my desire to breath life back into neglected autos.
It was sad to watch her drive away, but I know they will take good care of each other.
I'm glad to hear you finished this project and fixed her up! I was hoping to see the final pics of everything though!
