*****UPDATE*****

I found out after doing some messing around, that the problem is the range. I have to be right next to the front passenger door for the remote to work. And it does work very well at close range. If you get any more than a few feet away it wont work anymore. I still don't know how to fix this issue and would appreciate any sugggestions

Replace the battery in your key fob. It's getting thus the reason for close range.

The batteries are brand new. That was my first thought as well

Had the same issue with mine when I first got it. New batteries and still only works from about 15 feet.

The antenna for the rke is in the passanger door. It's only a wire so I'd pull it apart and see if maybe it broke. Either way you can extend it and increase its range.

Sent from inside my 4.0.

is there anyway that you can re-locate the antenna to the dash or something, so you have equal range side to side?

I guess you could by running it back through the boot to the underside of the dash. Just make sure to leave some slack or make a quick disconnect for the ineventable dash pull for heater core/mode door/evaporator replacement.

The keyless entry on my 2005 Grand Cherokee began to work intermittently and eventually stopped working all together. Put in new batteries and still nothing. As a test, I took off the back key cover, held the battery down firmly to the circuit board with my fingers, tried the buttons, and they worked! I tried putting a shim on top of the battery so it would put pressure on it when the rear cover was reinstalled and success! I tried a dime and a thin washer, both worked but the cover wouldn't snap shut securely. I cut a small circle the size of the battery out of a cereal box and that worked fine. I am guessing that a small circle cut out of thin plastic, like a deli container or a little thicker like an OJ container might be better. Maybe some material a little smaller that would fit inside the 3 little posts on the back cover that hold down the battery would work even better. I'll update this post when I see how long the cardboard lasts.

Our "New" '02 WJ only had 1 factory key and NO remote. After $160, we have a new factory remote and key. Remote works from 50 feet. I got a eBay remote I have to get programed @ Chrysler. Preowned Jeeps are a challenge. I figure in a year it will be like new. I sure is nicer than my '94 Grand. 4.0 was easy to fix and drive. Synthetics got me 20 MPG.
