Jeep coolant.

Sorry if this isn't the right place, but I was wondering which coolant goes into a 2000 Grand Cherokee Laredo, 4.7L V8. I had a coolant flush done today (although all they did was change it, didn't actually do a cleaning like I wanted) and they put DEX-Cool in it.

Thanks.

Flush out the dex-cool ASAP! Dex-cool is known to cause dex-sludge which can clog you heater core and radiator. The correct coolant is either zerex G-05 or mopar AF.

i have to replace my radiator soon and was just going to use either the Prestone antifreeze/coolant extended life stuff, or the 50/50 solution. I see that Dex-Cool is a product of Prestone. Is it JUST dex-cool that causes sludge, or all prestone products? How are the Peak products?

Peak and Prestone are both great products. Dex-Cool is NOT all bad. It's the factory GM Dex-Cool that is bad, the Prestone version is a really good product, and I run it in my Camaro, but it is not needed in your Cherokee.

so when i replace the radiator this week, it really doesn't matter what I put in there, brand wise? Because if not, i'll just get the inexpensive stuff. I live in an area that can get really cold in the winter, and really hot in the summer. I'm talking extremes of -20* to 105*. Should I use a 50/50 formula?

50/50 is good if you dont feel like taking the extra effort to mix it yourself, however you will end up paying a bit more since you will need twice as much

I just did mine the other day and I put Zerex G-05 in it. This is a HOAT type anti-freeze. This is what came from the factory. I couldn't find this at Autozone, O'reily, or Advanced. I had to go to NAPA. I put 3 gallons of the Anti-freeze and the rest water. They have a chart on the back that will tell you what % to use for how much protection. The 4.7 take 14.5 quarts including the resevoir and the 4.0 takes 15 I think. Make sure you do it right though. Especially now that its so cold out.

Prestone does not make any coolants that are compatable with your WJ or ZJ. Prestone Any Make/Model is a Dex-Cool clone, Do Not use it!

Dex-Cool and Dex-Cool clones are known to cause sludge build up in coolant systems with open air or non pressurized coolant overflow bottles ~ Like found in all WJ's and all ZJ's.

If you want to use an old coolant technology green type silicate phosphate coolant ~ Peak still makes one, but I recommend a modern technology HOAT or GO5 type coolant. Get it from your Mopar dealer dyed bright orange or any automotive retailer that carries Zerex GO5 dyed light yellow-green.

I don't mean to bash your post ~ But you couldn't be more wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Prestone does not make any coolant products you should run in a WJ. Period!

My G-05 I just put in looks redish in the overflow bottle. When I flushed I ran water thru the system for like 20 min. Whats the deal there? Why does it look red?

First off, I have a ZJ, 1997, radiator has 20k miles on it.

ok wait, so I just flushed my cooling system and reloaded with a bottle of mobil antifreeze and a bit of universal Prestone. Whats gunna happen if I leave it like that, I dont want to buy expensive mopar crap....

I bought a whole new bottle that day of Prestone 50/50 for future flushing and now you're telling me its "bad" antifreeze?
it says on the back: "intended for use and compatible with ANY coolant used in ANY make or model of autombile or light duty truck on the road today and mixes with ANY color antifreeze" (and yeah the any's were uppercase on the bottle lol)

So are we saying that the green prestone 50/50 that I flushed and filled my WJ with 20 or 30k miles ago is ruining my engine?
