Question Issue with the 03

I have a 2003 grand cherokee and up in the left rear quarter panel behind the rear tire there is something that looks like some kind of pump and it is leaking oil that smells like rear end grease or 90 weight oil, can any one help me as to what it would be? camera broke or i would post a picture

thanks

FWIW, I have the same smell from my drivers rear wheel area. I've had all my axel seals changed and its still there albeit its only after you stop. Brakes are fine too. The unit under the rear quarter I believe its part of the emissions system for the gas tank or there of.

I could be wrong, but isn't that area where the rear axle vent is routed to? You might be puking gear oil up the vent hose and it's dripping down over the vapor canister?

The item you see is the evap canister and a solenoid for the purging system. The tank vapor lines are fed to it, and a stainless line runs along the unitbody frame rail and into the driver's side of the engine compartment.

So that's where the axle vent is? Didn't know that
