Intake Manifold Gasket
Has anyone ever replaced their intake manifold gasket on a 4.7L?
My Haynes book makes it look like a huge pain to do. It's got me doing everything from removing the alternator to unbolting the air conditioning compressor. I've honestly never torn that deep into the engine before, and was wondering if anyone had any guidance or write-ups? I don't even know if it needs replacing, but if you've seen any of my other posts, you'd see I've been chasing a misfire/bad idle problem for years. I figure, if it's not too big a deal, I'd take the intake manifold off, give it a good cleaning, and replace the gasket. But Haynes has got me removing like half the stuff under the hood just to get to it. Is it really that bad?

also, is it really necessary to drain the coolant too?

you would have too drain the coolant, if not completely at least below the level of the heads.

hmm, so if I did have an intake manifold leak, would that mean that I would have a coolant leak as well? I'm not leaking any fluids (that I know about). No smells or anything of coolant.

Not necassarly, the coolant just crosses over in the manifold, that's why you need to drain it. But you can have a vaccum leak indepently from the coolant
