It's a broken ground wire in the boot going to the driver's door.

I fixed mine about a month ago. Though it was tricky to do, there is a plug there that you can unplug and it helps to pull the broken wire right out and solder in a new one.
Also was not fun driving my wife to the hospital at night with the interior lights on while she was in labour, so I recommend fixing it sooner rather than later.

If you adjust the dimmer switch that controls the instrument cluster brightness all the way down, it will force off the interior lights, even with the broken wire or with a door open.

@OP, any problems with the rear hatch also? My problem is similar, but I also cannot open the hatch or rear glass.

The locks in the hatch are electronically controlled, and will not function without the wiring being intact to the driver door switch (possibly the passenger switch as well). There is a small square cover in the plastic of the hatch that is removable to access a manual lock so you can unlock the hatch without functioning power locks. I don't know offhand if that also sets the glass in the unlock position as well.

i have fixed my drivers before, now it was the passener side.
pics appears that someone had repaired it once before.
unplug to help with short wires and makes it easier to crimp
very simple!!! all fixed.... heres some pics to assist you or anyone else. im sure theres tons of pics and threads of the fix, but sometimes the search bar is "invisible"

Don't Crrimp - SOLDER!! Makes for far better joint..
Looks like it was the same guy that was in at mine
I took the plug out like you said and ordered new wire to the exact colours, clipped the wire off the plug and made up new tails, shrink wrapping the joints as I went, then I found some amazing waterpoof insulation tape on Flea bay and it made the new loom look the Mutts Nuts, and removed the kick panel inside the drivers door and soldered in the new loom there, far better solution and still working so far... touch wood Lols!
P.S Thanks to 4Tom for his help on this..

Some Jeeps came with optional voice command for lights and doors. Look for a mike in the front.
