...what do you know I am now having the same problem after reading this post(Cursed?, lol).
It happened just an hour ago, when i tried to start the car, It ddnt. I had to get it jumped. Took 10 times, I had to push the gas to make it start, Than it stalls after letting go of the pedal. I had to rev it att 3K, holding it there for a while to give the battery some juice. On my way home it stalled me 2x, i had to put the gear in neutral and i have to push the gas and maintain the RPM to 1000 so i dnt stall. I got home, After 7 miles in the freeway the RPM fluctuates like yours(Feels like its going to Stall).

I hope its just the battery just like malibubts said.

I just had my battery tested and came back fine I don't have any problems with it stalling or not wanting to start it just like crap and the rpms fluctuate

TPS, or injectors would be my guess. Injector pulse width (IPW) is so short and has to be so precise at idle that the slightest issue with an injector or TPS (part of what determines IPW) will cause the idle to be complete crap. Yours is not that terrible compared to many I have seen but it is still annoying.

So is replacing the TPS a good idea? Fairly simple?

Should be a 5 minute job. The 4.7 has it right on the throttle body above the IAC sensor. 4.0 should be similar. Before you spend any money have the vehicle scanned for DTCs as most auto stores will do this for free. If it shows any codes that will often tell you exactly what needs to be replaced. Generic codes like a misfire code can be caused by a few different things (plugs, injectors, distributor, wires or coil packs depending on what setup you have)

Mine was doing the same exact thing. As soon as I would take my foot off the pedal, it would try to stall. I replaced the IAC Valve and now it idles at a nice and steady 550 rpms with no fluctuation.
