How to replace front axle seal?
Noticed today both My front rims inside was covered with oil.
I am thinking it is the front axle seals, How to replace Them?
Do i pull the brakes and the 4 bolts holding the axle, pull the axle and replace the seal?
I have done the rear bearings and seal before, Where We Had to cut of the washer and press of the bearing.
Is it the same in the front or is it a simple pull Axel and change the seal?

- pull wheels
- open diff cover
- remove inner axle seals with a prybar
- remove any remaining sealer from original seals
- install new seals with special tool discs 8110 and turnbuckle 6797...or you can make your own with threaded rod, 4 bolts, elevator washers and a turnbuckle.
- re-install diff cover
- fill with oil to spec.
pic of special tool and install to give you an idea what to make -

if it's the cv's it'd be more big blobs of grease instead of oil.

Ok, Thanks man. As i understand the front is not same as the rear. The rear have the seal out on the axle, outside the bearing.
The front axle seal is inside the diff, right?
Do i need special tool or How to Go, Sorry i am Really stupid...... Lol

no. pry them off with a prybar or flathead screwdriver. jeep techs use a special tool (listed in my post) but if you look at the picture i posted, you can make that tool with some threaded rod (or two bolts) a couple nuts, a couple fender washers, and a turnbuckle. i'll sketch up the homemade special tool and post.

Thanks alot Buddha_kip, you Are the man.
Ok i Think i Get it, i need this to press the seal into place. The tool press outwords and put the seals into place, right?
Do i need to Take out the diff from the diff housing or can it be done with axle and diff still in place?
Do i have to pull out the axles?
So There no seal out on the axle?

You need to pull out the whole differential. Make sure you don't mix up the bearing caps and keep all the shims in the same order and on the same side. And, yes you need to pull the half shafts too.

So If i understand this right, the procedure is:
Pull wheels
Pull brakes
Pull axels
Pull diff cover
Pull diff
Replace new seals
Mount diff, axles, brakes, diff cover, fluid, wheels.
That's all, right? Rofl
