Question how much hassle is it to run new speaker wires anyway?

So I've been upgrading my speakers. Still using the Infinity amp for now, but will unplug it and run directly from the head unit. My head unit (a kenwood) is four channel, I'm thinking of running the front channels to the dash speakers (infinity reference 3032cf), and use the radio's high pass filter to block the low notes, then connect the rear outputs to my front speakers (infiinity reference also). This would eliminate the rear speakers of course but I don't care. Would also install a Basslink powered sub in the back.
So my qeustion:
How much hassle is it to run new speaker wire and how did you do it?
What gauge did you use?
Any other suggestions to best use the speakers I've got?
