I have not seen one of these threads for a few years, and I think its good info to have around.
Please participate in the poll than comment below. Please includeyear, engine, oil used, any major failure and at what mi. it happened and classify your maintenance habits based on the scale below.
Also include any information relevant to your mileage that is not mentioned above.
I cant tell anybody what to do BUT I can ask; it would be great if we can keep comments (other than your response to the to the original thread) to a minimum in an effort to keep the thread easy to look through for info purposes and reference purposes.
Maintenance scale 1)I just change my oil and fix things when they break. 2)I follow the owners manual "scheduled maintenance". 3) I am obsessive compulsive about maintenance and loose sleep when I don't understand the chemical compounds of a fluid I am using in my JEEP.
2004 Laredo 4.7
Bought with 130k, now at 170k and runs perfectly. I've had to replace the axle seals, oil/transmission pans, cv joints, etc. but nothing catastrophic so far. Hell I even still have the factory exhaust without a single leak! I'm also extremely anal about maintenance, and I run pennzoil platinum at 5k mile OCI.
Bought at 128k
In last 2,000 miles I've replaced crankshaft sensor, fuel pump and fuel filter, two vacuum hoses, hood and hatch shocks, and replaced torque convertor.
2000 Limited 4.7L 2WD. Purchased 8/13, with 160K on it.
Before I continue, allow me disclose, this was purchased knowing it would need some TLC. That said:
Ground in driver's door conduit repaired.
Spark Plugs changed
Oil Pressure Sending unit changed
New tires
New rear brakes, plus rotors machined
Headlights polished back out
A/C repaired (suction hose dry-checked and leaking, replaced accumulator with hoses)
Dent removed from rear hatch
Fuel injectors cleaned
Throttle body cleaned
Oil changed
Crank sensor replaced
Battery terminals cleaned, and cabling inspected
Loose ground repaired
Door panel clips replaced
I still have yet to solve the random dying issue, and I have a problem with the Infinity Gold stereo system where the sound will cut out.....pretty much whenever it pleases. I suspect the BRN/WHT whire to the amp has a break in it somewhere, but that is a small issue that can be fixed when I get it running.
Replace your electric fan relay switch as preventative maintenance and put a clutch fan on (if it doesn't already have one)...and you could possibly get 250-300K out of it.
01 4.7, im about to break 157k i hate seeing this thing get up in miles. Im pretty strict with maint. I change oil every 3k with valvoline max life 5w30
See signature below. Just passed NJ emissions last friday, no problems. Good til Sept, 2015:2thumbsup: oil change every 7500 with mobil 1 and extended mileage filter. ATF+4 for tranny, synthetic diff fluid
My 1999 WJ 4.7L V8 Limited 4X4 has 262300 on the clock...
I just bought it a month ago, I replaced the waterpump (was original) spark plugs (removed OE spec Champions installed NGKs), replaced a rear axle bearing/seal (outboard),new shocks(Sensen), new front brakes, new tires, purged and recharged A/C, and installed a new IAC valve. It runs great and shifts smooth. As far as I know it is the original drivetrain.
The dual CV style front driveshaft shelled out several thousand miles ago and was removed. I'll be replacing it with a dual U-joint style soon
I am a 1-2 on the maintenance scale
2001 4.0 almost 150k, use store brand oil 10w30 and usually fram filters every 3500 miles, had to do (rough mileage) headgasket at like 120k, crank sensor at 135k trans flush at 130k, trans rear output speed sender and govenor solenoid at 139k, oil pan and rear main seal at 144k.
maintenance wise prob 1 lol i mean i dont go looking for issues every day but if i notice somehting i check it and repair it, and i give it a once over at every oil change when i have it in the air.
this is my second wj and third jeep (had a 98 wrangler)
2001 WJ 4.0 Laredo...3rd owner. Bought it for $1,500.00 with 224,000 miles. Currently has 265,000 miles. I had to replace the radiator, fan and fan relay. Fan created havoc as the polarity was backwards. Swapped out 7 radiators in a month and a half and 8 relays in 2 weeks, before FINALLY finding the issue. Lesson learned? Don't trust aftermarket parts.
Just replaced the passenger CV axle shaft and have brand new rear upper control arm and ball joint waiting for a nice day to be installed.
Upgraded quite a few items...
INSTALLED:
- factory foglights, multi-function switch, and relay.
- factory auto-dimming mirror.
- luminescent gauges.
-'03 grille painted black (plasti-dip) with chrome rings
-'04 Overland rock rails
-Jeep brand push bar
-Jeep brand bug deflector
-'10 Wrangler Unlimited X steel 5-stars (plasti-dipped black)
