2000 Grand Cherokee Laredo
I bought mine used four years ago. I don't remember the mileage when I bought it. I've done a lot of work on it. Entire new cooling system, new crankshaft position sensor, including the latest job of new camshaft, lifters and of course head gasket, timing chain, etc that goes along with that job.
I plan on riding this Jeep well over 300,000. She is running pretty smooth after the camshaft job.
Down here in South TX there is only a select few in good condition. rest are beat to ***** and runnging bad, i had to settle for a 2wd,
right now Shes doing good, she has 158k right now, got her when she had 142k back in november
2004 4.0 Laredo
Bought it with about 218k for 2,200. It looked good, ran good, and I figured with the 4.0, high mileage is nothing. At 230k now. Currently runs strong, handles well, and no codes... anymore.
I am probably closer to a 2 on the scale, but certainly growing as this jeep has been keeping me busy!
I think I have all the common problems. I have only had the jeep for a couple of months (I drive a lot for my job!), so all of this is pretty recent.
Rotted fuel tank cover - Trying to find one yet..
O2 sensors - Just replaced.
Broken Driver Seat Mount - Happened around 220k
Rear Lower Control Arms - Just replaced, bad when I got it.
Rear Axle Bearing - Bought it just as it was going bad... Still running it... Have the parts, hoping to do it next week.
I think I have a cracked flex plate..
Rear driver side window motor/mechanism, was broke when I bought it. Replaced with new.
Rear Wiper Motor, was seized when I bought it. Tried to salvage, but it was GONE. Replaced with new.
Muffler was leaking. Replaced with glass pack.
ABS sensor is bad somewhere... its on the list...
Front fenders rusted out above wheel. Bought it just as it was bubbling the paint, now there are holes. WOW. Not sure what to do yet..
All gas lift struts were shot. Replaced them all.
Window seal rubbery things getting rust under the ends. I see this on every other WJ. On the list.
I am trying to use semi-synthetic high mileage oil, though I usually go with a high-mileage brand that is on sale! I always add a quart of MMO. Rear main is leaky, so I keep an eye on the level. Always change at 3k.
Rotate tires every other oil change. Check pressure. Always torque lug nuts.
'04 WJ 4.0 275k FBG 2" 255/75 MT on JK take-offs
oil used,Mobile 1, until recently, now what's on sale but good synthetic
any major failure, NONE! But, back axle is whiney and I'm afraid I'll be digging that rascal out soon. I have some awesome heavy late 60's TLC axles with a locker in the front that I'm tempted to meld in if I am physically able when the time comes, otherwise I'll be looking for a D44 at the yard. The TLC's are for leaf springs, so a lot of fab work. Rear offset is off too.
Maintenance scale 1)I just change my oil and fix things when they break. 2)I follow the owners manual "scheduled maintenance". 3) I am obsessive compulsive about maintenance and loose sleep when I don't understand the chemical compounds of a fluid I am using in my JEEP.
I'll say between 1 and 2.
Bought at 130Kish IIRC, now close to 170K. Had it at least 5 years, not sure. Change oil by time, not miles, b/c I usually don't put the miles on it for change interval to be good. Old oil is bad oil, regardless of miles on it.
