High idling upon start up!
I have a 02 jeep grand cherokee Laredo. When starting up car runs at about 1800rpms after a few minutes goes down to about 1400. Then runs between 700 and 1000. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance!

Clean your Idle Air Control valve on the throttle body.

I'm kinda new to DIY car fixes. Is this a fairly easy job?

yes. just make sure not to move the iac by hand as it can break apparently. (although i did and it was fine after)

My 02 Overland occasionally had high idle at startup. The problem went away after cleaning the throttle body and IAC.

Just had the same thing on the Overland I just bought and it was the TPS. So if the IAC doesn't do it try replacing the TPS. Both are right next to each other. Also if the TPS is going bad a lot of times you'll have other symptoms like wanting to kick in and out of overdrive on the highway.

While driving on the highway. While trying to speed up the rpms drops down to about 1500. Will only go up to about 2100 going like 80mph can that be because of the tps or iac?

No. That sounds normal. You'd see the rpms bouncing up and down as the overdrive kicks in and out but the speed stays the same. As the TPS gets worse you'll really know as the transmission starts going crazy and doesn't know what gear to be in. From what you described it sounds like the TPS is ok and I'd work on cleaning the IAC and see if that does the trick.

The time now is 09:21 PM.
