HELP Just had a miserable 9 hour drive(tranny)

So i noticed about 6 months ago my GF's 04 4.0l doesnt want shift when it should. mainly when cruising. It will shift and get up to speed but when i start going up hills it wont leave overdrive. i drove across ny state and not once would it leave overdrive going up hills.

I adjusted the kick down cable but it didnt help so i put it back.

any ideas

I adjusting the tv cable because i thought the porblem must be mechanical because there are no codes. no cel and i double checked with the key trick. I am think could it be either the tps, input or output sensor?

also it doesnt shift hard,, or flare in any gears.

Mine did something similar a few years ago. It was the solenoid and sensor in the tranny.

In all seriousness the guy above is probably right. Just out of curiosity, did you change the throttle position? I say this because sometimes mine won't kick down unless I'm pushing down far on the throttle, or if I lift up.

What solenoid and sensor?

Recently(maybe 6 months) it makes a little whine noise when in nuetral, drive park, and rev are fine. smooth shifting.

If i want it to kick out of overdrive i need to go to near WOT.

Governor, and Overdrive?

When you had problems did it feel slow because it just wouldnt down shift? thats the main problem.

I have my repair list back home and won't be there for a few days. This was 2 years ago, but from what I recall, the jeep was slow as dirt and did not shift right. Felt like my tranny was toast. Either solenoid or sensor, said it was bad from the ring breaking apart and sticking to it (because it is a magnet and that was screwing it up some how). Dude told me I needed a tranny rebuild - could be pulling out of his shop or a year from then. Has been 2+ years now... I just try not to do rev drops and beat on it. Lol

I have these 3 issues that I resolved saved to my note pad.

PO601 - internal control module

PCM - governor pressure sensor
P1762

Don't recall which it was or if it was either of those. My main computer above the passenger went bad and that's what I thought the issue was, but it was in fact a solenoid or something in the tranny. Cost me 2 and change to have the shop do it.

I would think - I'm not an expert on this matter.

Got home and checked. I had to have my governor pressure sensor valve and solenoid replaced. I was indeed throwing a code.
