hella HIDs

So I have a pair of Hella 500's that I want to convert to HID, I would like to do 55 watts but I'm wondering if they will be to hot for the housing, Ive heard of a lot of 35 watt conversions. Any one here have 55 in there hellas

my concern would be the depth of the housing. HID's are longer than halogens. if people do the 35w bulbs in them tho, the 55w will also work, as they are similar, if not the same.

you have to mod the bulb and the housing to get them to fit, i run hids in my 500's Any reason why you prefer 55 watt over 35 watt?

I've heard that the 55 watts are about 40 % brighter

but they also have a tendency to wash things out. from what i have heard a 8k 35 watt is blue, while a 8k 55 watt is more like a 6k 35 watt and so on

I have 100 watt halogens without an issue, and I assume those are hotter than your 55 watt HID

55w HIDs will run cooler than 55w halogens, so yeah should be ok. Also why would you really care that the color temp is washed out? If you are putting HIDs in offroad lights, its to see better, not have ricer blue lights. I have 55w 5000k HIDs in my projectors and they are perfectly white light.

that is stictly color you are talking about. essentially the 55w bulbs have a broader zone where they are neutral in color temperature. which is actually good for people that dont want it to look ricey.

to the OP. i would say not to worry about the heat from what others have said here. you dont have to worry about the "wash out" factor, as that just deals with the color of the light.

this website explains it....

http://www.ddmtuning.com/Products/DD...ast-35W-or-55W

go there and click on bulb color.

not to speak for the OP, but i believe that was someone else's concern.

i agree with you though, otherwise.
