Mine is by passed with a 3/4inch if I am not mistaken, u shaped rubber hose and new clamps. Be wary, when you take the hoses off coming from the heater core, coolant is going to spill out. Thankfully there isnt much use for a heater in Texas!

Let me guess you've Done heater core and blend doors before many times? I'm planning to replace both when the time comes. How often do these both need to be repaired? Thanks

I've got it torn down, installed, and put back together in three hours. That's by myself. If I had help it could be done in half the time. You can do it man!!!!!!

Externally , under the hood.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got yourself an electrical problem!

I've got the heater core blues, too. Will be picking one up from Rock Auto and doing the swap soon. A friend of mine had to do one on his WJ a couple of years ago, so hopefully it will not be too bad.
I bypassed the heater core for now (5/8ths heater hose from O'Reilly, oem clamps), which was not too difficult, other than having largish hands and trying to get my mitts down to the water pump.
I figure an electric screw driver, some baggies and a sharpie will help with the job. Of course it goes out in the middle of winter, which has been mild until now, a string of 20 degree mornings.

Been lurking for a while. I like this forum. Lots of good people and info, no drama or flamewars. Glad to be a part of it now.
