My 2002 Grand Cherokee 4.0 AWD intermittantly only selects 4th and can be pulled back manually to select 2nd gear. The front wheel drive sometimes seems to be active without any need making slow turning on hard roads noisy and presumably cuffing tyres. Currently being serviced
I have heard of several cases of gearbox and drive train problems on low mileage Grand Cherokees here in South Africa but mostly in the V8's.
My question is: Do you experience unusually high occurence of failure or does it have something to do with higher speeds ?(70kmph legal on highways with 80mph being pretty standard). Our hard roads are excellent on the whole and therefore not a problem to a vehicle that pretends to be a great 4X4.
