fuel pump issue

I have a 2001 jeep grand cherokee and i have some issues. The jeep would drive for a mile or two and then just shut off, it doesnt sputter it just completly shuts off. then if it sits for a few hours it starts again and same thing. I currently have it on the lift and i pulled the filters outgoing line and started truck and the fuel pump it pumping. Does that mean its probably a clogged filter? or could the fuel pump still not be properly pumping? Is there any tests?

1st. Shake filter, if gunk comes out replace, blow thorugh it, if there is a larege restriction replace.
2nd. check lines
3rd. when enignie stalls bang on the middle of the tank, or were the pump is under. if it starts up. 99% chance its the pump. Also replace the filter too.
