you know like on the transit busses. they have the bikes up front. anyone seen any pictures of a setup like this? i just woonder if i can see over/through the bikes enough to drive to the trailhead, 10 minutesout.
however idk about welding 3grand woth of bikes to the front of my dub lol. thats what bumpers are for.
what's on the back hitch? They'd be WAY too tall. Call it 30 inches from bottom of wheel to the crossbar. I'm not with my jeep this weekend, but I'm lifted so I have 21 inches hub to fender, with 16 inches below that. Can't really have it below the axle hub for clearance, so you have 21 inches to the bottom of the fender 10 inches above that puts it right in your line of sight. Not quite safe. That's to the crossbar assuming the rack holds the wheels at the axle height. Now the front receivers mount at the framerail height which is a fair amount above that and go up. That just sounds scary...
Not sure why you aren't doing anything with it on the back end. If you have a trailer already on there, just weld a 2" receiver to the trailer.
just cause of the liftgate. i have to splurge on the bike rack that has a pivot built in, so i can swing em away then tailgaiting{getting ready}, only thing is that its an extra 200 ducks. and i dont have any tools here so i was just asking for a pipe dream is all.
i think i understand the numbers your saying. but i bet for a 20 minute drive, it would be fine up front. you can basically see throgh, i was only curious if anyone had tried
i'd be careful though especially with the cops. not sure how they are out by you, but the ones here would rip you a new one for blocking visibility like that
I hear that, a buddy of mine borrowed my canoe about seven or eight years ago. He laid it on the luggage rack of his Furd Explorer and did the old rope thing from the back to his hitch ball and the front to his front bumper and he got a ticket for obstructing his view. I wanna say it was like $140 too...
yeah, that $140 ticket would about pay for the hitch receiver on the back anyway. I picked mine up for $125 used. Nice Thule, swings away instead of down
Yes! I see way too many boats with only straps over the centre, and nothing securing the ends. You're supposed to have a v-strap front and back to properly tie-down a canoe. Otherwise it can pivot, loosening the straps over the top enough to slide out front or back....
As for the bikes... sounds like a bad idea. Whats so important in the hatch that it trumps forward visibility?
