Engine year manufacture

Is there any casting / block numbers anywhere to determine when are roughly when the engine was made. I have 2001 WJ and had to buy a low mileage used engine due to position skirt issue.
Post 2000 motors are slightly different, or so I've read so I want to be sure I have the correct one. Thanks

Keep in mind, the 0331 head has the potential of cracking as well.
