Wj engine keeps running after key is removed. wtf

2000wj 4.0. i am having this screwy issue. when i turn off the ignition it keeps running till i hot the brake. then when i release the brake the fuel pump primess and the dash lights go on. it is almost as if the ignition is on and the key is off. the brake thing is really screwing with my head. any ideas??

did or does the jeep have a remote start installed?

common safety feature of remote start units is when the brake is depressed shuts the vehicle off, keeps from stealing it with just the remote start
