Difference between inner and outer pinion seals

What is the difference between the inner and outer pinion seals? I have a leak on my front D30 and purchased the outer seal, but it doesn't seem like the piece I was anticipating. I was expecting a seal that I would have to pry out and tap the new one in. The one is received is just a piece of rubber.

Inner out outer ? Never heard of it like that. It's just a pinion seal.

If you look on Crown's website it lists both an inner and an outer seal. This is why I am confused.

Is it leaking from the yoke on the back of the diff, or out of one of the ends of the axle tubes?

If it's leaking out of the yoke you need a pinion seal. If it's leaking it of the axle you need an axle seal.

Right, but no one has answered the difference between an inner and outer pinion seal. If you look at Crown Automotive's website, they list TWO front pinion seals, an inner and an outer.

You'd have to call them.
