Custom WJ Roof Rack Concept (PICS) input wanted

Hey guys,

First off let me say that I have been reading and watching the jeepforum for a while now but seldom post because most topics have already been covered. But now I am designing a custom roof rack for my WJ and want some feedback.

My Goals are

-Low profile roof rack
-Bolt in position of stock rack
-Be light but strong (obviously)
-Be a little more "aerodynamic" than a tube base rack etc.

Here is what I have so far (see pics)

About me:

I am a mechanical engineer at large metal fabrication shop. We have waterjets, cnc lasers, cnc breaks, and all the scrap metal I can have so I have liberty to make just about anything metal wise. I'm building the rack in solidowrks if anyone wants the files just let me know.

Tell me what you think and PLEASE make suggestions. THANKS

I like it.

Maybe add something for a hi-lift or axe on the side?

Are the round holes for lights or air flow?

The holes will be for lights. I am thinking of using lexan or equivilent to plug the holes with the lights being recessed slightly. This will help the spoiler and reduce some drag from open holes. Those things are like are dams lo.

I do plan on adding a bunch of mounting spots for various equipment. Also I may extend the rack forward since I don't ever use my sun roof anyway. The top bar in the back I may make removable to I can easily drag my gear off without having to lift again. Dunno though.

Yup,

I'm drawing up a hilift and axe and shovel to put on there now. I'm trying to come up with an easy quick attach/detach system to make it very user friendly.

Stay tuned

Once I get mine built and installed and I know it works I'll be glad to sell you one, lol. It should be around the $250 to $350 mark.

Don't forget the put the tire somewhere that it is "easy" to access.

Reload and see if it is there. Good point about the wheel mount. I'll move it back a little.
