I'm Still not sure about that Is the jeep lunging forward and backwards when you go in drive and reverse without the brakes? It's possible that the torque energy is being relieved through the wheels instead of the drivetrain mounts when you don't engage the brakes

My 01 makes the same noise, you get used to shifting and letting up the brake. I'm going to through new rotors and pads in the back and see if that cures the problem. But I agree with the rear brakes using a fraction of the pressure of the front, but it should be enough to hold the GC without creeping. I'll keep you posted when I swap out the rotors.

My rear pads were down to the metal backer and it creaked something fierce... After changing discs and pads, I was disappointed to find the creaking still happening. But it is much LESS than it was.

One way to ensure that the back brakes are grabbing fully is to engage the parking brake and the foot brake then shift the transmission and see if the noise is still there. IF you have the back tires locked down hard and it still makes the noise it is the driveline loading that makes the noise and it is a combination of many things including Tranny servos, bushing flex, Ujoint flex, slip joint flex, ball joint flex and pinion lash.
