Wj Check engine light and oil pressure gauge j

Everything thing was fine on my jeep until today in the morning on my way to work the check engine light turned on and the oil pressure gauge would increase every time id step on the gas... Help? Has it happened to anyone else.. It also makes this weird cracking sound in the engine...

Oil pressure gauge is functioning correctly, given that you have a 99 and its an actual working gauge and not a dummy gauge. Oil pressure always increases under throttle.

Get the codes for the check engine light, either by using an OBD scanner (autozone will check codes for free, as I'm sure other car parts stores will too), or by using the "key trick", by turning the key from off to on and back 3 times, as in off, on, off, on, off, and lastly on. Codes should come up on the odometer. Report back with codes!

If you left your key in the on position, yes your check gauges light would be on. Since the jeep isn't running, there is no oil pressure, and that light will come on when your pressure gauge reads 0. The P0*** code(s) will show up where the odometer display is.

The issue you describe is classic to the oil pressure sending unit failing. (Assuming you have the 4.7.)

There may also be a real issue with the oil pressure and the sending unit is telling the truth. Best to check oil level & think of even dropping the pan to be sure there are no clogs on the oil pickup.

In the short term, replace the sending unit. (easy & cheap) Normally the issue of increased revs making the gauge read low happens when the engine is cold...but it only happens to me when it's VERY cold, like freezing.

4.0 That's fine. Still recommend the advice provided.
