cat question

Hi guys,

Looking to replace the entire exhaust system on my 02 overland 4.7ho which has the two cats located on the down-pipes and main cat before the muffler. Are the cats on the down-pipes necessary or can they be left out with my new install? I would like to remove those or the inline cat located before the muffler. Your input please. Thanks

Removing either of the two pre-cats would trigger the check engine light. Most people just leave them alone. Check to see if your main cat has an O2 sensor on it (I've heard some WJ main cats have them and others don't). If it doesn't then you can cut that out, if it does then go for a Magnaflow hi-flow cat. Just my 2 cents!

If the pre-cats do have O2 sensors just get an O2 simulator and eliminate them. They dont do much.

I am familiar with the Magnaflow hi-flow cat, as I used it on my 98 5.2 ZJ build. installing 02 simulators sounds nice but i foresee problems in the future with those. Thanks for the help.

where would you get these simulators and do you know anyone running them? If so, what has been their experience?
