A/C not working all the time.

Just bought a 2000 WJ with 155k. Runs like new and I love it but found a problem with the A/C. It won't always turn in certain settings. Blows in all settings but not cold. It works all the time in the "defrost" setting but not in others. Sometimes it works perfect. When all is working and the button is pressed the light turns on and blows cold, other times only in the defrost setting. Seems to work, or stop working between start ups. Any ideas?

I'm going to move this thread to the WJ section where your fellow WJ drivers can best help you out with this.

But I still wouldn't trade it for a Coupe DeVille."

There is a common problem with hot/cold mode (blend door/motor) and recirculation door.
Don't know about modes.

The description is a little vague. If it's an AZC (dual zone), check fault codes by holding the AC and Recirc buttons for 3 secs an turning the temp knob a click. Verify that the A/C compressor is turning on when you expect it to by watching the clutch under the hood. Ideally you'll want to have a set of pressures for the high/low on the A/c. If the compressor isn't engaged when the a/c is turned on, try tapping the front with a rubber mallet to see if the clutch engages.
