Question Brake Rotors

Well Im at the point where I must order a pair of front brake rotors (after some thought of upgrading to slotted rotors I decided to purchase basic Bremos).

I have never done a rotor replacement. Could someone who has done this on a 2000 drop me a checklist/repair guide pics would be nice (also... does Chilton's or Hayes have a Repair Book out yet?)

TIA -
Dan, shuddering to a stop

Yep! did mine about 3 weeks ago. Replaced all 4 and pads. NAPA has what you need. Picked-up El-Cheapo brand and pads work "GREAT" all for about $140 bucks!
Hard part is getting the old stuff off (Rotors) WD-40 and a BFH

brakes

They go back just like they come off. Once you get the caliper off, the rotors should slide right off but they will probably be rusted in place. Be sure to clean and lube the caliper guides. You will need a big C clamp or other to compress the caliper pistons back in so the new pads will fit in place. This will send fluid back to the master cylinder and it could run over so watch for this.

Exclamation Concerns regarding air in brake lines

Another newbie question...

Whats the possibility of accidently allowing air into the brakelines?

Tips to prevent this?

thanks again,
Dan

air

I have done a lot of disc brakes and have never gotten air in lines. Just pull off the pads and compress the piston all the way in and you will be ok. Drum brakes are another matter, you will probably get air in the wheel cylinder and have to bleed them. The first brakes I did, I was 16. Did them on a "46 Olds. Took the linings off the shoes and re-riveted new ones on. A real learning experience.

Yup - but there's a way to do it without a C-clamp. Wedge a couple prybars or big screwdrivers at opposing angles against the pads and apply pressure. The pads will slowly move back in their bores.
