brake light on dash

i have an 01 grand cherokee 4.0 and the brake light on the dash on the lower left jand side of the dash is on what could it be and what do i check thanks in advance.

Usually it comes on when the e-brake is on. Maybe check to see if it's up a little bit.

you might just have dirty contacts. You'll have to pull the console and look at it, manually move the switch, and see if it changes.

Excellent! Not too many people know this. Also, when the light is on, it could be because your pads are too worn and all the fluid is in the lines and calipers. Most will just add fluid and when you go to put in new pads, while pressing the piston to make room for the new, thicker pads, brake fluid runs out the reservoir and makes a mess!!

Check LEVEL
Check PADS
Check LEAKS
