Wj Best shocks for a WJ?!?

Hey, I own a 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo and it rides like a tank. It's as if there's no shocks at all, I can feel every little crack in the road. I want to upgrade my shocks, but what should I get. By best shocks, I mean biggest bang for the buck. I don't want to go all out and spend $300, I want to keep it decently priced. No lift by the way. Thanks in advance.

Well majority of folks on here are going to say bilstein 5100's. And I would agree. But they are going to be almost $300.. Lol Dont know what else to tell you.

OEM or bilstein don't go with cheap shocks or you will be replacing them sooner than you think. If your not lifted, heck I'd replace them with the factory OEM shocks then.

I'm running the regular Bilstein's on my 04 and my wife loves how the WJ rides with them. My OEM shocks were completely dead at 63K. It would be either Bilstein or OME for me.

I paid $289 shipped (on special) for Bilstein 5100's. They might be cheaper for stock length. Doesn't Bilstein also have a lesser expensive shock than the 5100? An entry level shock? The other shock Kolak recommends if you can't afford Bilsteins is Pro Comps, which are quite a bit less. Not sure what model they are.

If you cant/dont want to stretch to Billys then as long as you get a monotube design shock you will be ok. They ride better and last longer than cheapy twin tube shocks. Factory shock are mono's on the UpCountry pack for that reason.
I recently bought some KYB monos and they ride superb....very much like the factory UC shocks I had before but without all the rattles but hey, they had lasted 100,000 miles so cant complain !

Monotube shocks are the best. I have Fox on mine. If you list your jeep get the shocks that are valved for the springs you use, it makes a difference.

Aren't the Bilstein 5100's for a lifted WJ? I got the Bilstein 4600HD on my stock height 04 WJ. Major difference compared to the crappy Monroe replacements the PO had on it. I paid $260 shipped from Kolak. Highly recommend the Bilsteins, well worth the money.

Also the bilsteins have a lifetime warranty. $300 and it's the last set of shocks you'll buy. Just save your money and wait until you can buy them. I bought some stock height Billy's from kolak and they should be here any day now.

Not to hijack, but what if I needed shocks and still had a plan for a life in the future. Would it be smart to get the 5100's on stock height while I waited to do the lift?

I mean you should probably wait to get the Bils once you lift so you dont have to drop ~$300 twice...

Also ordered some Bilsteins from Kolak. Great guy, very knowledgeable. Should be here any day now and cant wait to throw them on. Oh yeah UC + BB lift over here
