Only difference from 02-03 overland is 04 has better front seats and a different front end.

04 Overland on 33's, Lift & tires= 8" over stock.

the only time i seem to see people complaining about the HO is when they have an '02 Overland. Not exactly science, but if I was looking for one, id go either 03 or 04.....JMO

Get an 04. There are fewer TSB's for 04 than 02, and the 04's had some small changes/improvements.

Different front end?

Edit -- you probably mean front bumper changes.

I wanted an 02 or 03 for the fold down headrests in the back, suede on the seats and better looking grille. Cheaper price usually too. Ended up finding a mint '04 and couldn't pass it up.

Fold down headrests in the back? I have an 02 and my headrests are removable, am I missing something? I do like the suede and the grille over the 04 though. I was lucky to even find an Overland, in the time I've owned mine I've seen 5 other ones around here.

Our 02 limited has the fold down head rests. There is a lever next to the head rest to tilt it, it then fits into the space made by the bottom seat being folded up. We have the h.o.v8, side curtain air bags, and the 10 way power adjustable driver and passenger seat. Basically as close to an overland with out the suede seats and suspension. I thought they all folded like that. I should check to see if the head rests sre removable too.

I've always been partial to the last year of a body style. Reason being that by then misty of the kinks are worked out.
That puts the 04 top of the list for me even though they removed some of the nice features (under hood light, door mounted courtesy lights, ...) for the final run they can easily be added back using jy parts.

Yes it is. I have a Laredo that was fairly loaded (leather, Infinity sound, etc) and I have the fold down headrests.

Exactly, I can't believe they removed that feature for 2004. My '12 WRX that I had before the Jeep, I had to take out the headrests (3 of them...) and throw them on the floor every time I wanted to fold down the seat, which was reeeeally annoying and stupid.

The '04 has holes beneath the seat bottom, so when you fold it forward, you can stick the headrests in the holes to store them. Not the best idea, but better than just throwing them in the back somewhere.
