You can get that with a box from TDI tuning. It was great when I had one...the extra torque and power was awesome.....Just don't believe their increased mpg bs! Then you can move it from car to car...can't do that with a remap!
Nope...no downside . I did have a little extra smoke but that turned out to be a faulty injector so nothing to do with box. I bought it based on the increases in fuel consumption that they claimed......but there was NO improvement at all...and if you use the extra performance it was rather worse...kind of what I expected but it was worth a go. I don't know anyone (with either a box or remap) that has improved fuel consumption but if its extra power you want (205 horses and massive torque in my case) then go for it. I did not really use the extra power so when I was offered good money for it I sold it. Btw..ignore the evic after the remap/box...it does not "know" the injectors are dumping more fuel due to the increased rail pressure.....mine went from about 30 to about 43mpg! The reality was actually the same or down to about 25 when taking advantage of the extra power/torque. After much research I came to the conclusion that there is no advantage to fitting a box over a remap or vise versa and liked being able to unplug it and be standard again. With TDItunings current twin channel boxes they control turbo boost too so they do all that a remap can.
I think most do about the same thing. I went with TDITuning just because they are the market leaders IMO, with good back up. The first one I had was faulty.....they could not have been more helpful in replacing it quickly and even sent an upgraded model at no extra cost to me. When you say "cheap ones which just fool the car into overfueling"....that's pretty much all they do!!...remap or box. Since the CRD engine is effectively always at full throttle (no throttle plate....engine speed is just controlled by injector pressure and duration) the ONLY way to make more power is to inject more fuel....just making sure that it does not inject more than there is air enough to burn. Go too far and that when you start getting the black smoke through over fuelling.
Using live data during the remap process this would be picked up.
