Advice 2001 Grand Cherokee

I have 2001 Grand Cherokee 2wd 6cyl all stock. I want to give it the appearance of a 4wd off road vehicle. I would like to hear any suggestions any of you have. My budget for this project is 5K. The vehicle is in excellent condition. I would like to try and add some umph to the engine as well. I appreciate your time....

Seriously? You'd be better off getting rid of the 2wd for whatever you can get for it, then buy a used 4wd in comparable shape. Smart selling and buying should leave you with at least $4k for a lift and tires, and a good bit of maintenance on the new rig. I wouldn't put it into a 2wd at all.

Thanks for you service!

^^ This. Sell the 2wd for 3K, and buy a 4wd for 6k (you can get a lot of WJ for 6k). Take the remaining 2k and buy a 3" lift kit and some tires, and use the rest for changing all the fluids on your new-to-you 4wd WJ.

And ditto, thanks for your service...

I agree with selling your current WJ. You can find a 4WD WJ at a very reasonable price in Sac. Given your budget you can make it a sweet ride.

Sell, sell, sell and buy a 4x4 WJ, look for a good price, low milage and use the rest to lift it!!!!

I'm going to go the other route,
*If* you don't want or need a 4X4,
Get a 2" budget boost with new isolators and some good shocks, that will let you put on some nice size tires like say a 265/70/16 (maybe even some 265/75/16s since it will be a pavement queen) and will look like a 4X4 for less than $1500.
Take the other $3500+ and stroke your 6 for a nice power boost.
Or,
Sell your WJ, buy a 2wd HO V-8 and put the BB and tires on it.
2wd HO V8s are hotrods even today.
