6.4L hemi

Hi everyone, I'm a first timer on a forum ever! Pretty excited about it. I have an 01 wj limited. and really want a sleeper jeep. How many have put a 6.4L srt engine in one of these? I'm thinking it can't be that difficult couple basic hand tools in the driveway should get her done in a couple months.. No? Any feed back would be great! Thanks in advance

6.4L in a wj

Hey guys. How many have you put a 6.4 srt engine in your jeeps? And what issue's did you have to deal with? I have an 01 limited wj but the engine bay looks kind of junky and I want to spruce it up a bit. Any help would be appreciated

I'm no expert but for what you want to do, I would think it'd be way cheaper just to go buy a WK SRT8 or a WK2 SRT8 and lift it. I would imagine the wiring alone would be a freaking nightmare to figure out. The 4.7 is a relatively tight fit as it is in the wj engine bay, so a lot of messaging of the engine bay would be required.

I think someone on here years ago attempted to do a 5.7 hemi swap in his WJ but I don't think he ever finished it. And if he did, he never updated his thread.

If you want a go-fast WJ, find a 2004 WJ with the 4.7HO and slap a blower on it, as there is at least one kit available for it.

I'm not saying its completely impossible to do, as a member on here just swapped in a 6.2 diesel into his WJ, but this type of swap is by no means going to be cheap, easy, or done in a short time frame.

If you still want to attempt this, please start a build thread. I'll be interested to see this take shape.

2004 WJ Laredo, 4.0, 197,xxx miles and counting, 3:55 gears, D30/D35c. Stock for now

I'm not sure you could even fit a 6.4 under the hood without severe modifications, like Roy'sjeep said it's already pretty tight under there already.

Don't want to discourage you but you will probably end up building a completely new vehicle around the engine that resembles a wj haha.

Keep us posted if you go through with it though.

A new 5.7 hemi is like 9000$ Canadian a 6.4 will be more. Is the wj you want to swap it into worth an engine like that? What about the trans and axles? Surely you'll need to address those too

You've got a better shot of LS swapping it.

I agree. Put a 6.0 with some mild cam and you're making pretty good power for cheap.

The hemi is so wide i had heard it wouldn't fit between the shock towers.

all good thoughts and ideas. And I have searched the topic many times. Sorry to kind of play a trick on everyone but I have been working on it all summer in my driveway and wanted to see if the perception was still there that it could not be done. Well for the most part it is. And I hope more follow. I am more then willing to help anyone out that was thinking of doing it.

My biggest issue right now is getting the dash to work... I don't think it's going to happen within a reasonable budget.
