3rd row seat a possibility?

I did some research on this site and found little. I am in the market for an 02-04 limited or overland v8 4x4. I am selling my 06 Explorer with the 3rd row seat and my wife really liked having that option. My neighbor has a JK and he took a TJ rear seat and modified it to add a 3rd row in his JK. It looks almost factory now. Is that even possible with the space in a WJ? Any thoughts or direction to prior threads on this would be greatly appreciated.

the trunk area of a wj has a relatively high floor due to the spare tire being underneath. if a seat was added there probably would not be much headroom if any at all.

My neighbor is on here regularly on the JK forum. I am sure he posted pics. If not he will soon. He just finished the mod last weekend. I will attach his thread once I find it or he gets it up. I am pretty sure it was a kit he bought on line and all he had to provide was the TJ rear bench. The attachment hardware for the belts and seat were all provided. I will find out where he got the kit from.

Safety would not be an issue because I would only do it if it was 100% safe. I am also not too worried about height. I would really only use the 3rd row for children. I also need to make this thing removable just like the rear TJ bench is. If I can not find a way to make that work without comprimising safety then I will not do it, but I wanted to at least see if it's can be done safely. Somebody has to have done this. It's a Jeep, there's no way there is a mod out there that hasn't been tried. We just need to find the right guy.

Hell yeah!! That's perfect. I knew there had to be something out there. That is EXACTLY what I was looking for. The price isn't bad. Now we just need to see if the Jeep enthusiasts figured this system out on their own and did their own homebrew version of this. If your out there and built your own please post up pics.

Just emailed my neighbor and he stated he ordered the "Teraflex JK 3rd row seat kit". I was wrong about the TJ bench. He used a JK rear bench out of a 2door JK. I guess I got my info a little wrong. That's probably why it looks so factory. If you google the kit there are plenty of pics of it out there.

Of course it's not safe . They were never designed for a third row of seats like some cars...some Volvos etc....so effectively you are sitting your kids in the crumple zone of the vehicle...the area designed to be weaker! Just look at any rear ended wj to see how they fold behind the rear wheels. On top of that you are sitting them over a fuel tank known to rupture in a rear impact. ....although I don't see them as dangerous tanks myself. It would be illegal to sit kids there in the UK....with good reason. Very silly idea.

Sent from the Dark Side using only the Force.
