2004 WJ relocating evap canister and associated parts

well for years now I have had the P0442 and P0455 codes and I originally chased it down but then gave up haha. well now the time has come for me to get the Jeep smoged for CA plates, so I figured I better figure something out.

After some looking around I found some pretty big cracks which were never visible before, and after really looking at the EVAP system I realized there really isnt that much to it that could go wrong.

So seeing what theKSmith had done to move his components around I decided to do the same in preparation for a rear bumper and to hopefully fix all my leaks.

I didnt take any pics of the before, but any of you with and 04 im sure know what that mess looks like, my Jeep being from Ohio and seeing lots of mud and water looks pretty horrid.

I bought some rubber hose from pep boys in order to replace as much of the old stuff as I could, and to move the canister to up under the Jeep. I used 5/8" 3/8" and 1/4" hose for those that are curious

you can see where I mounted it and ran the new hoses here:

i decided to just use some heavy duty zip ties as its light and I dont think its going to go anywhere, but ill keep an eye on it.

It took some trial and error but I was able to just use the front piece of the old mount and bend it up and mount the LDP and filter to it but in a different configuration, after a little manipulation of the hoses I was able to use the hoses I had plus a little of the new stuff to make it all fit. The vent hose being pre molded like it was wasnt working for me so I just added the new hose to that and ran it up, easy day

this is some of the crap I didnt use, I swept up a lot of the rust and dirt haha

and with the original piece of metal bolted back up using the front two original mounting nuts, its tucked up in there pretty nicely

and with the bumper cover back on its pretty much all hidden now which is nice

I was thinking of making some kind of reenforced mount for the rear of the plate I used, but it seems to be fine the way it is, fairly light weight so it doesnt really move but again ill keep an eye on it and we shall see.

I havnt put my Iceland flares back on yet but I'm thinking I am gonna clean em up and maybe repaint them so the Jeep can look nice again maybe haha

hopefully this can inspire someone else or answer some questions as I havnt seem much of this around here

Aaron

it really wasnt as much as I thought it would be, I could have gotten away with just replacing the pieces of hoses that I could see were visibly cracked, but after replacing several pieces of hose before and still having a leak I decided I wanted to tear the whole thing apart and make sure that I was fixing my problem.

I also cleaned the LDP out and made sure filters and vent were clear, hardest part was rearranging the pieces and mounting it back on the Jeep haha.

and it did not look good at all the way it was before... now it looks like the passenger side

Attempting this right now...went halfway and found out the 5/8 4ft I bought wasnt enough grrrr....one would need at least 8 feet for the two runs.

BTW I found this hose was cracked...what part of the fuel system does this belong to? Any concern?

Haha yea I bought 12 feet of the 5/8 just to be safe. Ended up havin like a foot or so left after using it for the vent hose as well.

The hose in question also goes to the Evap mess, it goes to a little T which feeds into the filter or whatever it is and LDP, so if its cracked replace it. My hoses were all really hard and brittle. No check engine light as of yet

**EDIT**. Scratch that... Check engine came back on today ::beat:: so I'm gonna just buy a new LDP as there is no way I have a large leak after replacing all the hoses to include up front...

Damn P0455 haunting me haha

If that doesn't work I guess it's a smoke test

after a $60 smoke test, dealer says its the LDP leaking... so I bought one those too. hopefully fixes my problem as I am tired of throwing money at something I think is pointless haha

I figured it was the pump, but I wanted to make sure... hilarious watching them with my modified Jeep lol, they never have a clue

this is my old LDP or Leak Detection Pump, circled in red.

and here is the new one, that will hopefully take care of my problems

gonna swap em out tomorrow, but have to drive it for around 100 miles before it will test itself again so its a waiting game unfortunately and I really dont drive the Jeep that often.
