2001 WJ ignition problems need help!!!

My son was out in the sand pits and the starter was engaged whilr the motor was running. I replaced the ignition switch, actuator pin assembly, and key tumbler... all new and its still doing the same thing.
the truck will start and keep the starter engaged while its running

Sounds like a bad starter. Try whacking the starter with a hammer after you start it, could be a sticking Bendix.

If you don't have time to do it right the first time, how do you have time to do it over.

The problem feels like it is in the ignition, when I turn the key from the off to on position it acts like I turned the key to the start position. I don't have to turn it to start, it actuates the starter too early??

Here is a link to the wiring diagrams that might help.

you never know if the last owner put a remote start system in and abandoned it and now all these years later could be give you problems with crossed wire somewhere...

Thank you very much, the diagram was very helpful, and I will trace the wiring to see if there was any sort of remote whammo.
can it be as simple as the relay???
thanks again

If it was the relay I think it would start as soon as you turn the key on even before going to the start position. Good luck.

Did you replace the actual ignition switch or just the ignition cylinder? Just wondering if there is any confusion there.

This is rally upsetting. It ended up being a wire from the starter up by the battery. The wire was under the plastic wedge piece that holds down the battery and was shorting out on that bolt !! Argggg how annoying. I traced all the wires 5 times then finally stumbled on this. Well at least I guess I have new ignition I guess.
Thanks for throwing ideas at me, I really appreciate it.

Glad you got it fixed. Yes wiring can be a b**** sometimes.
