2001 Limited 4X4 with 128K

Okay, so I am shopping for a WJ and found a 2001 Limited with 128K. Beyond the typical blend door issue which this one has, is there anything else I need to be wary of? Asking price of $4000 seems to be good with this mileage. Also has towing package.

Welcome to the dark side of Jeeps but seriously. Here it is off the top of my head(mine is a 4.7 for engine reference) only buy Mopar sensors for the beast they don't like off brands. The tweeters always crap out, the 247 t-case only takes 247 tcase fluid all others atf 4 like our TJ's. The heated/power seats are no longer in production so if you lose heat....junkyard time for seats. the fan relays are hit & miss as to how dependable they are. and if you get a 4.7 DO NOT OVERHEAT THE ENGINE. treat her well & she will love you. My 4.7 just dropped a rocker arm but i do all my own repairs so i get to take apart the passenger side valve cover again oh & the rear studs for the headers on the V8 will break. I just replaced mine but it seems to be driver side specific do to cooling down at different rates because of the lack of junk on that side to keep the heat in (passenger side has a lot of stuff to keep the heat in the compartment) Any one else have anything to add?

Thanks for the info, shoulda showed up with cash because this one was gone in a flash. Supposedly owned by a little old lady and it showed and was a sweet deal. I'm keeping my eye out for another. You mentioned fan relays, could you expand on that? I looked at another on recently where A/C would cut in and out for no reason. Are fan relays related?

99WJ01TJ summed it up well. And yes be nice to the 4.7. They never like getting too hot.

lol thanks Modest80884. The a/c thing you would have to elaborate for me. I know my condenser went out in 2005...like pop no more a/c while driving through AZ. But don't let that scare you, my brother while in Bravaria bought a new at the time from the dealer with 0miles Audi A4. 80 miles later a coolant line burst & was replaced....there is always murphy's law A for the fan relay they are located under the passenger side headlight and have been known to give up(due to poor air circulation i would pressume) & the only way to replace them is to A. remove the front bumper assembly, or B. remove the headlight cut a small hole & replace it. I prefer removing the bumper by myself it takes a whole 20 mins. If you opt for the 4.7 you get a mechanical & electric fan. So if it fails no biggie mine kicks on only while towing or when the a/c is on. If you get the I6 you only get the electric fan instead of the mechanical like my TJ so if the relay goes your temps will sky rocket. Sory for the long answers i try to be very thorough with my answers/Jeeps. Thats why they both have almost 200,00 miles with little problems.

Well my a/c unit has shorted more than twice thanks to a piss poor job people did putting my stereo in. Lesson learned! Try to do the simple things like that yourself and research!
LAjeep, a good website with lots of useful info is wjjeeps.com. Check it out

i bought my 99 4.7 limited at 128k and i have 131k on it now. not 1 problem, just maintenance slowly getting done.

watch out though, the '01 has the hydraulic cooling fan. supposedly a beefy system but when it breaks its big $$ to replace.

also, I paid $4500 for my '99 and think i overpaid. $4000 is a good price for the mileage in my area.

That was a good price not surprised it is gone. I just bought a 01 GC Laredo I6 145k with all the options for $4500. Good luck with your search.

Same price and milage I paid for mine. A little less known problem the 4.7's have is bad valve seals. Even with good regular maintaining some of them are known to leak a little causing a puff of blue smoke after sitting at idle. Doesn't do it when cold (I revved mine, and checked the exhaust when cold, hoping to make sure there wasn't significan't blow-by from the rings, and saw nothing, didn't think to check it when hot after idling for a minute or two tho. I put synthetic oil in it right after I bought it and it made the problem WAY worse, I promptly switched back to some high mileage stuff I had good success with in my other rig, and the problem went away in about a week. Still uses about half a quart every 3k but doesn't blow noticeable smoke, plus some of that might be where I have a slight leak at the oil pan The 4.7 also seems prone to have a tick when cold, (lifters etc) but it goes away when warm. But what chrysler engine doesn't tick Once again, there's the issue of the hydraulic fan, seems to have come up a couple times in the past few weeks. I really wish I had known this when buying it, I would have steered clear of the 01 and up models just because of this. If you remove it you get a CEL, it's expensive to fix if it ****s out, and there's not much of a way to upgrade it. Other than that just what everyone else has said pretty much!
