Wj 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Rattle

I bought my jeep used and put about 1000 miles on it since ive owned it...when I first bought it there was no issues....later on I noticed a rattle occurring. Here are the details: When the car is in park and when i tap the accelerator there is no noise but when its in drive and i raise the rpm's to almost exactly 1200 there is a nasty rattle like sound that sounds like gears grinding, if I hold it there the rattle continues. When I go above 1200 to about 1500+ or under 1000 it stops. It also happens for a brief second when I start the car. I'm thinking its coming from the transmission but not sure. Just wondering what it is and how much it will cost to get rid of it....

Thank You for your time.

Check exhaust system. Sound to me like a heat shield rattling.

i think it may be the catalytic converter.....it makes this higher pitch grinding/rattle only between 1000 and 1500 rpms

They're all automatics. You have an inline 6, not a V6. (profile correction)
+1 on checking the exhaust hangers & cat.

Welcome on!

It's not a Jeep if it doesn't rattle.

Yep! That is why there is a radio with a volume control! Never owned or driven one that did not have some rattle or clunk. LOL!!!

But yeah check the heat shield. If not that check the engine mounts and tranny mount.

Same rattle as fishinluvr

I have the exact same rattle that happens between 900 and 1200 RPMs on my 2008 JGC. Did you ever figure out what was causing yours? It sounds like it's coming from the center portion of the dash somewhere. Just like fishinluvr, it goes away at higher RPMs. Not sure if it's something serious or just an annoyance.
