2000 Grand Cherokee Transfer case??

Hey all
Unit: 4.7 V8 2000 Grand Cherokee Limited

Issue: When checking the play in the front drive axle, while parked, there is a ratcheting noise back and forth in the transfer case...
when driving, a constant clicking noise...
i have ideas on what i think is the issue but would like some conformation...

thanks
Rick

First and foremost, your profile says XJ Cherokee, but you infact have a WJ Grand Cherokee.

Next, we need to know what transfer case you have. Do you have quadra trac/quadra drive (both use the 247 transfer case), or select trac (uses the 242 transfer case)?

Your drive shaft should not move more than a quarter turn or so. Is it?

Typing on phones sucks.

sorry about the WJ miss...

its a quadra trac.

the drive moves less than 1/4 turn.

i believe that transfer case chain is slack and hitting the bottom of the case constantly...

more thoughts??
