1999 WJ broken Lifter seat

A buddy has a 1999 WJ with a 4.7 V-8. The overhead valve lifter seat cracked and broke off, leaving a badly running engine requiring a new head.

Is this a common failure? Is it worth it replacing the engine?

TIA!

Looks like the rocker dropped out, which is a common problem, but also somehow cracked the 'lash adjuster' seat.

Can the head be removed from the block from under the firewall, while in the car? There appears to be clearance issues there.

it can but would be easier in the long run to remove engine to do such work and if you are going to do all that might be smarted to just replace the whole thing since you have suffered a catatrophic failure and who knows what else was broken in the process. I had the same thing and it destroyed the piston, several rods etc...
