I had a similar problem. The batteries went out, I replace them and my fob stopped working all together. I went into the dealership and they told me it was toast and its 160 a piece for new fobs. I went home and started playing with it and the negative tab has a little arch on the battery side of the remote that is supposed to raise above the batteries and hit the other half of the remote when its pressed together. So maybe check to make sure you didn't push that tab down when you were replacing the batteries.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I got the same issue. Two new keyfob programmed by dealer only work from outside the passenger door. Service for said my Sirius antenna that is mounted on the dash is the cause. I don't believe him because the fobs didn't work before the Sirius install.

Appreciate any help.

Mark

I never got mine fixed. I ended up finding a wrecked 2000 WJ and pulled parts from it to put in mine. all you need is the key fob and the door lock / window control unit from the passenger door and swap them in.

Thanks Corbin. Has it been working good since you swapped them? How much did you pay for the module if you don't mind me asking?

I took the one out of my door today, but could not see anything visibly wrong.

no problem. it works great. the 2000 model doesn't have an antenna hanging out of the receiver like the 2004 will but as long as the fob and receiver are from the same vehicle it will work. mine also looked just fine but didn't work. the new one was free actually. I have close relative that buys wrecked cars so he bought it for me as a parts vehicle.
