Wj '02 WJ Sun roof plastic broke...

Daughters '02 WJ Sun roof had a plastic piece alomg the passenger edge of the sun roof break. Opens fine, but when you go to close the sun roof, a molded plastic piece on the parimeter of the sun roof opening has broken and gets in the way of the sunroof closing. Acts as a wedge and won't allow the roof to close, unless you hold it down beneith the sun roof. We can hold it down while the sunroof retracts and it will close without issue.

Was thinking about super glueing the two pieces together, then glueing a couple support pieces along the edges for added support.

Molded thin plastic piece about half way back on the passenger side of the sun roof.

Thoughts?

Same thing happened to me!! I tried to glue that part with epoxy and super glue and it just broke again. My sunroof doesnt close evenly now and it leaks. So i now have duct tape around the seams to stop water from coming in. I think the only option is to replace the sun roof . I cant seem to find that one part anywhere and you'd think they would make that part out of metal its so flimsy and likely to break because its plastic

The replacement part is about $700. Its the entire carrier system that the sunroof slides on. Labor to r/r the headliner will easily be 6 hours if not more.

It can be done with simple tools in your garage and a LOT of patience. A helper doesn't hurt. Take pics before & after, bag/tag parts and don't get too frustrated.

The good part of this is that in the r/r process, you can also reclaim the extra 2-3 inches of sunroof opening that was removed after the 99 model year. Your sunroof will open to full opening of the roof instead of stopping short and limiting the opening size.

There's a caveat to the larger opening, however, (that I can provide info on if requested) but I think it's no big deal.

Word to the rest of you to lube up the sunroof slide tracks as your days of open roof cruising may be numbered and don't even think of using a boneyard unit to save $. That unit has the same amount of wear yours does.

The wind deflector that pops up on mine broke a while back, not sure if this is the same piece that you're talking about. They have a metal arm on the end and that is right where mine snapped. I just took the deflector out and the sunroof functions fine now. With the lightbar and spare tire on the roof there is already a ton of wind/noise so I cant even tell the differance with the deflector missing.
