Wj '02 JGC Sport, Air Bag Light On, why?

Daughters at college with '02 JGC Sport and a couple days ago the RED Air Bag light shows lit on the console and won't turn off. Our '98 JGC Laredo Air Bag light will turn on after a heavy day of rain, then turns off the next day. Apparently there's a switch/sensor behind the head lamp on the '98 that is prone to getting wet and turning on the Air Bag light, until it dries out.

Daughter did the ignition trick (on/off/on/off/on) and no codes, just DONE. Going to have her stop by an auto parts store and have them scan for codes just in case.

Thoughts on why the '04 Air Bag light has turned on?

There is a recall for this, might be worth checking out. Could also be a clockspring issue.

There is a recall, and while light is lit up, air bag could possible go off. Definitely check into it quick

How do you disable the air bag? Can a fuse be pulled temporarily? Problem with the recall is that there are no parts yet to fix the recall. I've talked with Jeep many times.

How do you get the recall performed when Chrysler claims they are having problems getting the replacement parts???? This was SUPPOSED to be fixed by Jan this year!

Does anyone know the fuse# that can be pulled to disable the air bag? She's 500 miles away at college and I'd prefer her drive around with a disabled air bag, then one with the light on that has a known recall and could deploy at any time. Thanks...

Go to a Jeep dealer and have them pull it - they might not even charge her!

I doubt it will deploy. My airbag light has been coming on and going off intermittently for a year or more. The '04's should have the modified ACM, which ignore the front impact sensors, per the TSB 08-016-03.
I doubt, very much, that a dealer will pull a fuse, or disable the airbag in any way, just for the liability alone.
There was an earlier TSB, which used switches to disable the airbags, but that only went up to a 2001.
If she has cruise control problems, and/or problems with the radio buttons, it could be a bad clock-spring.
An airbag light can only be reset by a special tool.
There are places that will reset airbag lights. You create a service ticket, they send you a box and label, you send them your ACM, and they repair and reset the ACM and send it back within 24 hours. Check myairbags.com.
