Shouldn't you be running slower. According to www.1010tires.com mine being a laredo 245/70-17 vs 285/60-18 being slower. Stock 245/70-17 60mph & 285/60-18 58.1mph.

285/60/18 are 31.5" vs 245/70/17 at 30.5" (same as all the other oem wk2 sizes). And I checked mine with a standalone gps as well, at it matches the calculations, about 3% error in the speedometer.

Bigger tires make fewer revs/mile which means the speedo will read slower than actual speed and odo will record fewer miles driven vs actual.

Speedo would read 4% low vs stock so at 100MPH indicated it is 104 MPH actual speed. Mine is off about 6% from stock.

I know that but what webspoke said was is your speedo will read low by 3%. It is about 2mph at 70mph (reads 70, actually running 72) It shouldn't be 72 but 68. Like I said I like the setup but can't find wheels that look like heavy boat anchors.

So by my calculations -

285/60/18 and 265/65/18 are almost the same sized tire...? This would open up some other rub free options if the nitto isn't your first choice.

Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference
285/60-18 6.7in 15.7in 31.5in 98.8in 641 0.0%
265/65-18 6.8in 15.8in 31.6in 99.2in 639 0.3%

I love the vision warrior wheel in this thread. Any reason this other size wouldn't work as well? I'm pretty partial to the cooper st or BF TKO. But I did like what I read about the nitto grappler and their price point is sweet.

Anything I'm missing?

Depends what you are looking for ride wise and how you classify significant...? MPG wise you will see a drop for sure but it hasn't ever stopped me, I'd bet maybe one MPG or more depending on tire and what size. Ride quality will be affected as well. The rig will ride a little stiffer and probably have some more road noise. Your shocks shouldnt be affected. Those are the quick cons....pros they look better and perform much better off road.

IMHO the changes have never been drastic enough for me to not do it!! I will say that waaaaay back in the day my mom could always tell the difference ans *****ed about it. So who knows what your wife will think.

Has anyone tried 255/70/18 ? At 32" overall diameter but .4" more narrow than stock it seems like a winner. Doesn't even seem to be on the table as an option in all these threads though, am I missing something?

Yes, I have a set of 255/70/18's on Sahara wheels. Looks and works great but the tire selection is limited. See http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f309/...tires-1263508/
