I read on the Edmunds 2011 GC Forum where a number of owners had improved the throttle response by turning off the Hill Start Assist function. I was skeptical but I went to the EVIC settings and turned it off on my GC and was surprised to find that I had better throttle response. Has anyone else with a V6 Pentastar engine tried this?
I don't know if there is any truth to this. When HSA is at work there is a warning on EVIC. In one year of ownership I saw it 2-3 times and I always was on a pretty steep hill.

HSA? Or ESC?

Or both?

And I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you. I would HOPE it wouldn't be working all the time. But I do know that there was a noticeable difference between enabled and disabled, even from the passenger seat. Maybe it was not working correctly. And I didn't notice whether there was a message on the EVIC that it was working or not. Just that it was enabled at first.

hsa does not put up a warning light in my wk2 or my sisters kk. i have seen the trac light kick on a few times.
i live in an area when it is used daily. i like to left off the brake and count down from 5 till it kicks off. then do it again lol

will turn it off today and see if i notice anything.

I was talking about HSA. I had ESC engaged a couple times too when getting out of the snow. At least I think it was ESC - I don't remember for sure. I think for ESC the indication was not a message on EVIC but some icon flashing on the console.

I turned it off this afternoon on a 50 mile drive home in city and interstate driving. It did seem to give more acceleration pep and less lag after turning the HSA off.

According to the manual the hill start assist is only active when the grade is 6% or greater

Personally, I think the manual is wrong. Or the the feature is implemented incorrectly.

Incidentally, it DOES seem to work like you say on the 2011 JK that I've been driving. Played a little with it yesterday, and on an incline going up-hill, let the brake off, and after about 3 seconds, you could feel the brakes disengage and the Jeep started to roll backwards. Level, thereabouts, let off the brake, and the Jeep immediately started to roll forward. But there was a NOTICEABLE difference in HSA on vs. HSA off in the JGC, on level ground.
