unfixable problem

I have had a moaning/groaning sound coming from the front end of my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. When I brought it to the attention of my service person and returned to pick the car up I was told there was no fix for the issue but that Jeep engineering was working on it. Apparently I am not the only one experiencing this issue. The noise occurs when I am going slow, but not with the brakes applied. When is stop and go traffic the noise escalates louder and louder and sounds awful. I contacted Jeep customer assist but that was utterly useless as no assistance was offered other than if I wanted to get out of the car she would send my case to the legal department. My service person called 2 days ago to say Jeep had said there is still no fix but could be the result of some bolts not being adequately fastened and to get to those bolts my entire transmission would have to be removed. Needless to say I am highly aggravated and disappointed with the whole situation.

Wait... so they offered to let you out of the car? As in, a full refund?

How many miles do you have on it? I know it may be a hassle, but it may be a pretty good deal if they are so willingly allowing you to get out of your Grand Cherokee. If they're willing to let you do a straight swap for a similarly outfitted 2012, that may not be a bad idea.

(also, this thread should be moved elsewhere)

What's wrong with them dropping the tranny to try and fix the problem? It is still under warranty so it is not like you are out anything except time and your GC. Kinda of a pain but this is what a warranty and insurance is for. If they are actually letting you out of your current GC for a new one, I would jump on that.

He did not say they are buying him out of it. He said they would pass it on to that dept. The customer service person has no power to really do anything except listen to the complaint. As far as the repair they are talking about, there is a tsb for loose bolts on the flex plate I believe it was. So the trans and torque converter would need to be removed. This was for a rattling sound. It sounds like your dealer doesn't have a clue and I also would be wary of this repair. In my opinion once they are taken apart like that they are never the same.

I had a very similar problem. Whenever I would take off at low speed there was this awful grinding sound. It was embarrassing when trying to park. I took it to the dealer and they admitted they could hear the sound but they had no idea what could be causing it. They made me an appointment to bring my GC back in the next Tuesday and they said they would start taking the front end apart until they found they issue.

It wound up being a nice weekend so I decided to get underneath and take a look for myself. Well the cause was simply a rock stuck between the skid plate and the transfer case near where the drivers side half shaft comes into the trans-axle. I was able to pop out the rock with a flat tip screw driver and once again all is quiet
