To add my 2 cetns,

have a 11 GC Limited 4x4 5.7 since June 2011 and reported all exact symptoms as yours. The Tech from the dealership felt the shudder and agreed with me the behavior was abnormal. Hooked up a laptop and confirmed that under light load the converter engages/disengages generating the effect here described.
Solution: Star case raised with Chrysler, obviously I am the only one with this problem on earth as they have never heard of any other Jeep in this condition.
Never heard back since and at every service I hear the same story.
Now have 20k miles, I can only console everybody with the reassurance that it did not get any worse with time.

Yeah, it doesn't seem to change. I'm at 68k miles and it acts the same as it did the first time I took it in around 17K.

Update:

I sent lemon law letters to Chrysler and they had the car for 6 days at dealer for the (4th) and Final "Fix". Got it back from the shop and guess what? Still messed up and now making weird noises in the transmission. I called Chrysler back and told them about this and they basically said nothing was the matter. Sent my full packet with proof to Florida's new motor vehicle arbitration board. Will update. Such a pain in the ***

I have a 2013 GC Limited with the Hemi and I am experiencing the same issues. The Shudder/fishbite occurs while the vehicle is in OD and I DO have a visible RPM drop when this happens. I called the dealer and they said they have never heard of any such issue and that I should bring it in for testing. I am hesitant to do this because I don't want my otherwise perfect running Jeep to become some techs test bed as they "try" to diagnose the issue. I brought the Jeep after trading in a 2012 Ram 1500 that also had the Hemi and ran like a clock. I am disappointed in how different the "same" engine is performing in my Jeep. I've own many Chrysler products and this is the first one I've had any issues with. Like several other owners I'm considering ignoring it until someone figures it out. I'm no mechanic but its hard to fathom that a trained technician or engineering couldn't figure this out over what seems to be three model years.

I remember reading in this thread someone brought it in and they had it on&off for Several weeks with no results until they come up with a good plan for repairs I'm not bringing mine in!!!! also in this thread it was mentioned about the torque springs or something like that ?

It's been reported in this forum that a "fix" will be out for this issue in February. I reported the problem to my dealer and that is what is on my service ticket. So Jeep knows about this tranmission shudder. I'm waiting.

Not to dash anybody's hopes but I had a 05 Grand Cherokee with the 5.7 shudder that the Dealer had for 27 days and could not fix it. Traded that in on a 300C with the Hemi and no shudder at all with it. Had a 09 Grand Cherokee with the Hemi that had a slight case of shudder that went away after the dealer fixed the lag in engine response with a software change. Have a 11 Grand Cherokee now with the Hemi that gives shudders going uphill when I burn 87 octane and fine on 89 octane gas. So Feb 2013 will mark my 8th year knowing and having the shudder issue in Grand Cherokees and not fixed. Wife had a 08 Liberty Limited with the same type shudder and same symptoms and we replaced that this year with a 12 Liberty and it does not have this shudder at all. In my opinion this is a long standing issue with Jeep products going back to 2005 in my case. Good luck I hope they put a fix in for us.

My 2012 GC will be going away if this is not fixed. I am convinced the 8 speed will only bring more irritating issues.

Not to cause conflict, but I would think the 8 speed would help with the problem, not hinder it.

It feels like the shift points are the problem given the RPMs that the engine is at.

the diablo tuner basically eliminated the shudder as far as i can tell , i need more time to say for sure but i am pretty sure it did!

In the couple of days that I have tuned my 5.7 I have not noticed the shuddering at all.
