Transmission doesn't seem to shift right

I found out that there is technical service bulitin for an isolator on the front diff. They have ordered a new one and will replace it, I had a slight shudder when shifting. The mechanic said he felt it too and they would have to replace them on all their Jeep Grands.

I still have the feeling that the trans isn't shifting right, it seems to drag when you lift off the acelerator. I can loose speed going down a hill which seems like too much drag. Sometimes the shifting at lower speeds, say around 30-45 when in traffic is jerky and not smooth. Sometimes at low speeds when coasting it will go back and forth between gears fast and then smooth out.

Anyone else haveing these kinds of problems? I'm going to have them look at the trans when I have the isolator replaced. BUt it's hard to tell coming from a 1998 Grand 5.9 Limited if I'm just not used to this kind of trans or if I really have an issue?

Haven't experienced any of this myself--900 miles now. No obvious excess drag when coasting. No unnecessary shifts when coasting. I'm quite pleased with the refined nature of the transmission for the most part. Not meaning to gloat (who knows what's around the corner)--just reporting my experience.

Well, I experience the same thing with mine and wondering if normal since I am coming from a 2002 wj. It would be interesting if more of you experience this drag & erratic shifting. Maybe it is part of the ECO to save on gaz. Comments anyone?

I have the HEMI 4x4 and noticed the drag also. Dealer said it is because of the AWD system and is normal. I noticed the drag is not present in "sport" mode which is only rear wheel drive. Shifting is a little jerky at times in going from first to second gear, but is smooth for other shifts.

This transmission appears to offer some engine braking, not a drag, at say below 35 mph in normal mode. Probably by not completely releasing the torque converter lock. A nice feature IMHO.

Many auto trans allow engine braking when you are applying the brake, the 2002 may not.

I don't like the way any recent auto trans shifts. I don't like the way these lift the throttle when changing gears.... it is a transmission that's been around for awhile, however. You may want to check some of the WK forum posts.

I've experienced some transmission "issues". I've noticed it's really jerky when accelerating both lightly and heavily entering a highway. I had originally thought there was a computer issue since it was almost like the transmission was confused as to what gear it should be in. I took mine to the dealer and they said there was no reflash available, and they couldn't duplicate the problem. I've noticed it off and on since I've owned it since February.

I went trough the TSBs and with my date of manufacturing (oct 2010) there are two that are to be done, 18-001-11 and 18-012-11 rev.A

18001-11
Flash:Electronic Stability control enhancements
(looks like this is the one to fix our symtoms)

18-012-11 revA
Flash: Mil illumination or tapping sound heard under hood at key up or after key off with driveability and transmission improvements

Mine slips a little sometimes when it shifts from 1st to 2nd and sometimes from 2nd to 3rd. I believe it is mostly the TCM programming and torque management in the ECM as well. This thing needs much firmer shifts overall especially in sport mode which is a huge disappointment to me because I actually like the shift points, responsiveness, and firmness better in regular mode.
