Transmission CLUNK when putting in reverse

Anyone experiencing a sort of clunk sound when you shift to reverse? Never noticed this before. I have about 3,000 on my JGC Overland. Just wonderin?

On rare occasions mine has made a bit of a clunk but it was only after driving into the garage, putting back into reverse to see the rear-view cam, and then putting it back into park. It was hard to notice but a little rougher then the usual gear change - don't think it's anything you need to worry about.

Same issue here... still at 900 kms. Took it in about 6 days back, no issues. No worn bushings, mounts,...nothing. They couldn't even change my windshield water tank coz it was still full

The sound is still bothering me, however. It was NOT like that when I first drove it home.
The fact that the service manager gave me no "guess" as to what this might be made me doubt their ability to diagnose future/more complicated problems in the future (hope they won't ever show up!).

The only time I notice it is when pulling into the garage at work to back into a space. When I put it in reverse from park, it doesn't do it. Only when in drive and I stop to put in reverse. Don't know if it's every time. I'll have to pay more attention.

I did notice my car making a little click today every time I shift from neutral to drive and back. Is anyone noticing that?

Okay, so the clunk is now really bothering me. I'm not so sure if the sound IS getting louder or if I'm just becoming paranoid everytime I pull into my parking space ! I'm taking it in next week and if I get this "everything's alright" attitude from any of the service advisors I'm gonna make some noise this time.
Geez ! Putting this vehicle on Reverse is like backing up an M26 Pershing now ! and I'm getting a reallly bad feeling about this.

I get it too but it's only when shifting to R from D. And it doesn't do it every time. I think I've got it narrowed down to it doing it when the Jeep is not a complete stop prior to shifting from D to R.

It comes and goes based on how loaded the drive train is. When I pull into the garage and have the wheel cranked over hard it will "clunk" when I take it our of D then clunk again when I take it out of R after having cranked the wheel over to the other side and backed out a little. Moving in a straight line it doesn't clunk much at all. You can fell the drive train unload when you take it out of gear, that's what the "clunk" is.

Every 4WD vehicle I've had in the past 4 years since I've been living here and having to jockey the vehicle around getting it into the garage has done this to some degree. If you press the brake lightly, just enough to let the shift lever move, the clunk is either minimized or non-existent because the drive train isn't pushing against the brakes and loading up as much. I will say the WK2 is more sensitive to this but acts very similar to my father in law's Ram pickup which uses the same trans.

I attribute it to the way the torque converter is designed, it keeps a higher load on the transmission at idle where other automatics decouple the engine from the trans a bit more. It seems to be getting better with more miles so that lends credence to many who say a lot of the drive train harshness works itself out over time.

I'm at 3000 miles as well..

I totally have noticed this issue. I have the V-8, and I have also noticed it when the engine is cold in the morning and I put into drive. I called the dealer and he told me to bring it in (which I did) and of course he found nothing wrong and it did not happen while I was there.

But it happens often enough for it to bother me...

What gives

I am experiencing the same clunking issues with my 2011 JGC 4x4 hemi....from drive to reverse and then park in the garage. Dealer did not notice any issues. I will need to return vehicle again. I am going to examine when vehicle is cold and hot. Also flat surface and incline/decline

Well, after surfing around on the internet....I found this forum. I have a 5.7 Limited. Yes, I have the same clunk issue that drives me nuts and it is LOUD. It is most prevalent from D into N. I have only had the vehicle a week, but it was doing it from the first day. I took it in and the mechanic verified that it was not "normal." He brought up another 4x4 V-8 and we compared the two. Mine was noticeably louder. So, they want me to drop it off and leave it for a day.....and they said they can't give me a loaner. Sigh. Really? A week old purchase and you can't give me a cheesy fricken' loaner for the day?
