Strange Hairline Cracks on Passenger Window??

Got in my GC to come home from work this evening and I was greeted with two mostly vertical hairline cracks on the passenger side front door window. Both cracks run from top to bottom and there is no sign of anything on either the outside or inside of the glass indicating an object caused this. Pretty strange and I've never had this happen on a vehicle I've owned before. Anybody else have this occur? It better be covered under warranty or I'll be ticked.

Nick

Its hard to determine which side is cracked. It looks like it was some sort of stress induced crack and there is really no edge or ridge on either side to give me a clue. Its particularly off as there are two distinct cracks, one at the front and the other near rear of the window.

my window

I had a similar thing happen on my drivers side window, I was convinced it was defect, but my b.i.l who works for a Chrysler dealership looked it over and saw an ever so tiny notch out of the bottom of the window and suggested it was caused by a rock chip. Said the dealership would likely come to the same conclusion.

Mine looks almost exactly like that, except that there are two full length vertical cracks.

I went to the dealership in San Diego where I get service work done to discuss the poltergeist window cracks. The service writer helping me said in 7 years he'd never seen this happen. He took some photos and submitted a claim to have this repaired under warranty. He informed me that glass isnt cover by the standard warranty except when they can determine that a fixed (as in glued-in) window cracks from stress. Another service writer then passed by, looked at the cracks and opined that it must have been caused by a rock or some object hitting hit. Then, a service tech (a mechanic) looked at it and said it was the second one he's seen cracked like mine in the past two weeks. Hmmm. They will let me know how Chrysler responds to the warranty request tomorrow. BTW, the glass costs $510. More to come.

Did you have any foil heat reflectors just inside the window? In the RV community, there's been talk of dual pane windows cracking as the intense heat is reflected back.

No heat reflectors.

It looks like the dealership got the warranty claim approved. Replacement scheduled for Monday.

Jeep dealership came through and completed the window replacement under warranty. Good as new and a good overall experience with Rancho Jeep in San Diego.

me too

After hearing about the OP getting his window repaired under warranty, I decided to bring mine in. As suspected, the advisor assumed it was caused by a rock and wouldn't be covered but would submit claim anyway. The dealer called back later the day and said it would be covered. Repairs were done and as good as new.

Kudos to Derrick Dodge in E-Town.

Just throwing this out there, could it be a crack in the stuff in between both panes of glass?

Thread revival.

Looking for your thoughts on having my window replaced under warranty. Driving home today from the in laws my passenger side window cracked.

Those that had it replaced at the dealer, how fast was it replaced? Did they have the windows in stock? I have a family trip I'm leaving for this Wednesday and need my Jeep.
